Sherlock looked the Vulcan in the eye for a moment, then dropped his head back to the eyepiece of his microscope.

Sherlock had no intentions of explaining himself, and no particular desire to hear Spock's apology, for clearly that's where it would go in the end. Sherlock had surmised incorrectly, and didn't tend to be chatty about his past mistakes.
